Unwritten stories.

Three

“The summer is leaving the scene”, said the carmine tree leaf, when flying in front of Olya’s face.

After sharing its melancholic thought, the leaf headed dramatically to the ground in little loops and circle dance-like movements. Then, right before landing on the ground, it made one final turn, went around the shaggy dog’s head, tempting him to follow the flight with wonderment, and finally laid itself on the pavement in slow motion.

The dog looked at its owner as if to ask whether what the leaf said was true. But Olya did not notice the questioning face of the puppy. She was busy scanning the trees for other leaves dressed in warm colors – in preparation for the cold weather ahead.

The sun was not as warm as it was just a few weeks ago. The clouds, hiding it for a minute or two from people’s tanned faces, were already able to make you shiver. The brightness of the day was not as cozy. The night had started to arrive earlier in the day. School had started. The sea was cold and the seaside – deserted.

The rainy weather of the last couple of weeks had brought the feeling of spring – now that the sun was up and shining again. However, this scarce warmth on one’s face was really nothing like the first days of spring – it didn’t bring the delight of hope, or the joyful anticipation of a new beginning.

Olya took a cold breath, as if to clear the sunny thoughts from the drawers of her last-season mind, and let a warm breath through her scarlet pug nose.

She looked at her dog, who was sniffing the autumn leave on the ground with curiosity, and said: “come on, Shaggy, it’s time to go make some tea at home”.

Unwritten stories.

One

It was early. That kind of early they sing songs about.

She didn't really feel like making her eyes stay open for the rest of the day, but the dog was waiting impatiently.

Olya browsed through the stack of clothes she did not mind beeing seen in at sunrise... let the sweater slide past her dreaming head... and made each of her legs go through the holes of a pair of old shorts she and her mom once sewed out of her dad's favorite college jeans.

The dog was watching each of her moves with some sleepy curiosity. He was still sitting by Olya's warm bed, yawning constantly, with a high-pitched noice coming out of his mouth right before it gets shut.

Minutes later, the two were out in the dawn, dishevelled, one with a pair of trainers on, the other - on a loosely-held leash. They walked sluggishly into the park. The sun had already started to cut in through the leaves, drawing yellow spots on the green grass.

There was nobody else in the park. And the nature had already told Olya about that.

When passing between the two chestnut trees at the entrance, she felt a thin thread of spider silk touch her face. Then it broke. The two disconnected pieces of silk started to descend slowly, sketching inexistant creatures, when met by a sunbeam.

Olya knew. She was the first one to walk into the calm world of morning bird songs. She was the winner. She had broken the finish line tape. And now the night was finally over. Conquered by Olya. On behalf of the new day.

Summer summary

The summer is coming to its end. So are my trips here and there. But my memories have multiplied and I have plenty of (picture) stories for you. Yaaay! Right?

Long story short.., we hopped on the new (company) car..

..and headed to one of my two-ever festivals. I had plenty of a new kind of fun during the concerts, but the sea is where my heart is (you know, "Kateto in search of the sun"...), so naturally, I will tell you a lot more about the trip.. ah, the two trips to the seaside.

Soon after reaching the end of the freshly-built highway, we were at the beach..

..bathing and sunbathing.

Did I mention I ♥ the sun?

One of the seaside vacations was in Bulgaria and the other one in Greece. During the latter one we had a pool by the house and spent plenty of time there..

..since the beaches around were rocky. However, I did not miss to make the best out of that.. Like, by gathering way too many beautiful-when-wet rocks to bring back home.

Of course, we made sure we absorb some of Greece's rich culture.

But the rest of the time was either occupied with eating or.. well, enjoying some free time.

I personally avoided searching for the internet signal..

... and chose to stick to reading..

... or, simply, to hanging around, doing nothing.

Lots of beer was consumed in total..

... as it sometimes happen in warm environments.

Oh, yes! I also took plenty of photos to help the memories stick around for longer.

Awesome summer. Really. Too bad it's almost over. Or.. can I have some more?

The AD (After the Deadline) period has began!

At about 9 a.m. I crawled into bed. The excitement of ending my own hell and the smile that was framing my face did not let me fall asleep for some time.

At 12 I was already up, checking my messages for news from Sylvie. I found this picture:

.. and a few words telling me: "CONGRATULATIONS, Katya! You have successfully handed in your Master's thesis!"

From that moment on, the day was filled with lots of sun, the wide smile that I got before going to bed, and some kind of misty memory-less evening baggage packing.

Three more hours of fast sleep later, at 4a.m. I was on my way to a vacation in Greece and some

Yes, yes, good days are coming!

The BC (Before Completion) period is over!

I am officially done with working on my thesis.

Yay!

As somebody (and by "somebody" I mean every single person who knows me) may have expected, I finished it at the last possible moment of the last possible attempt for submitting.

The last day of April was fading into a night and I was still writing. Things did not look good, I must admit.

I did not believe in myself, though others did... Luckily, I knew I had the support of my family, my friends and my boyfriend (who fell asleep on the couch, next to me, only after reading the analysis part of my paper and giving me his feedback) and this loaded me with energy to keep going.

Finally, after greeting the sun that gave me its yellow-purple-red-colored rays on the first day of May, I decided I was done editing. I sent the file to my friend Sylvie who was going to submit the paper copies for me (since I am not in Denmark) and tried to process the thought that I had just finished.

Then, with the morning sun coming in through the bathroom window, I took the happiest shower of my life while singing one happy song after another.. Aaahh, better days are coming!

Sunny hopes and dreams

The weather forecast may be saying otherwise, but I still believe there is some chance for a long-lasting sunshine this weekend..

The Danes and that Sunny place

When I arrived to Denmark I was surprised by how many Danes had heard of Bulgaria. Most of them knew (at least) Sunny Beach and some had even been there.

As it turned out, this Bulgarian city by the sea is a popular destination amongst the Danish youth; a spot filled with endless parties, cheap alcohol and sun. As for the latter two, I can hereby confirm - you can't really find them in Denmark.

So, here is an IKEA ad which kinda presents how much the young Danes like that Bulgarian city*.

* It is an interesting fact that not so many Bulgarians go there.

Sunny afternoon..

..after a sunny morning.. after four sunny days in a row..
 Am I dreaming? :)
